When the Divine Speaks through Cornhole & Beer

Last night I played for cornhole with 4 of my favorite middle aged ladies. We have yet to win a single game this fall season but we’re hopeful to pull off an upset next week during playoffs.

I know what you’re thinking. And we agree—it makes no sense that we made the playoffs with zero wins. As #genxers we assume those “everyone gets a trophy” millennials must be in charge of cornhole league.

(AND, we are so grateful for the wisdom of those younger than us. 🙏😉)

Over post game beers, I witnessed 5 women making big moves and healing big wounds. They are standing up to their own fears. They are self advocating in relationships and careers. They are scared and they are doing it anyway because stagnancy is an itchy wool sweater that no longer feels comfortable.

They are navigating this all, not from an energy of urgency but from a knowing that it’s time. It’s tender. It’s soft. It allows for the expression of tears. It allows rage to take over. It allows for deep honesty with self and others. It arises in compassion for self and others and presents as humor and style and grace.

Ya wanna know the crazy truth about this fine moment? The five of us would never have been sitting there together had our lives gone “right.” Had the plans we made in our 20s and 30s worked out, we’d not be convening over beers and cornhole league on a Wednesday night.

And yet.

I speak only for myself. But last night, riding my bike home in the damp October cool, I had never felt so aligned with my truth, with my path, with my people. I felt connected to, as Kyle Cease puts it, “the all that is.”

One of the few beliefs I still hold is this: We’re here for a reason. We’re here to end the programs, patterns, and beliefs that have traumatized men and women over many generations. This is hard and often lonely work that we all must do as individuals.

It doesn’t happen overnight.

But. It only takes a single night of cornhole and beer to bear witness to change. And this change is supporting an energetic shift happening right now here on planet earth. It’s made possible by those brave souls who choose the healing path.
